Determining which products to use for your customers and employees to clean their hands may seem like a small task, but there are some things that you should know and consider before buying to ensure that you will pick out the best option for your needs at the best price.

Hand SoapThis is a water soluble product specifically made to remove germs and bacteria from your hands. Additionally, it works to remove dirt and residue from skin.  It is the best method of preventing the spread of disease and infection.

  • Antibacterial: Unlike regular hand soap, antibacterial works to kill germs rather than simply removing them from your hands and rinsing them down the sink.
  • Foaming: Foaming soap, as opposed to liquid soap, has a higher water content contained in the product.  It comes out of the dispenser in a lather foam rather than requiring the consumer to rub the product to create lather.

Hand Sanitizer: When soap and water are not easily accessible, hand sanitizers are a way to remove microbes from your skin. However, it will not clean your skin as it is not an effective method of removing dirt and soil.

Dispenser: As the name describes, dispensers are the equipment that is used to disperse whichever type of hand care you choose onto the recipient.  However, there are almost as many types of dispensers on the market as there are hand care products.  Let’s look at the differences between the options.

  • Manual vs. Touchless (or Automatic): Having a manual dispenser means the operator must push a button for the product to disperse onto their skin.  A touchless dispenser skips the button and simply requires the consumer to put their hand under the dispenser to receive the product onto their skin.
  • Foaming: In the case of a foaming product, there needs to be two chambers in the dispenser; one for liquid and one for air.  When the two mix together and are dispensed through one nozzle, the foam product is created.

Questions to Ask Before Buying

Now that we know some of the most common terms used in describing hand care products and their dispensers, how do you know which product is right for your business?
